Kenda wins contract to supply metering data collection equipment
for Barking substation
Southampton-based Kenda Electronic Systems Ltd
has been awarded a contract by ALSTOM's Transmission & Distribution
Sector to supply OMS (operational metering summator) equipment
for NGC's 400kV substation at Barking.
Following a competitive tender, Kenda won the
contract on the strength of its commercial and technical proposals,
coupled with the fact that the company has many years of experience
in the design, manufacture and installation of metering data
collection equipment for the electricity supply industry.
The OMS system will record the total energy delivered
on the high-voltage side of a 400/27.5kV, 70MVA traction supply
transformer, which is being installed at the Barking substation
to provide a 2-phase electricity supply for the Channel Tunnel
Rail Link.
The Kenda OMS equipment comprises a front-end
unit and a processor-end unit, both supplied in full-height
19in. rack-mounting cubicles.
In addition to the equipment itself, Kenda's contract
covers the preparation and supply of drawings, documentation
and an LIU (local interrogator unit) commissioning disk for
configuring the OMS with the necessary summation algorithms.
